Our Work

Our Activities

Jeevan Jyothi Charitable Trust carries out charitable activities in education, women empowerment, healthcare, child and student support, and community and rural development in and around Ranchi. The sections below describe the main areas of work and the institutions through which they are carried out. Activities are open to all, and are shaped by the needs of the villages and families the Trust works with.

Education

The Trust supports education through its English Medium School and educational assistance to children from economically disadvantaged families. Support includes schooling, learning facilities and, where required, assistance with school fees and study materials so that children are able to continue their education. Alongside classroom learning, attention is given to values, discipline, creativity and confidence, so that children grow as capable and responsible young people. Particular care is taken to encourage first-generation learners and children from villages, for whom continuing in school is often the greatest difficulty.

Women Empowerment & Vocational Training

The EYES Centre provides skill and livelihood training for women and young people. Activities include tailoring, candle making, and vocational skills, along with computer and spoken English training where available. The aim is to help participants gain practical skills, confidence and opportunities for income. Training is offered in small groups close to where participants live, so that women with family responsibilities are able to attend. Many use the skills learned to take up tailoring or small production work at home, adding to the household income and strengthening their voice within the family and the village.

Healthcare

Through the Chaminade Healthcare Centre and healthcare outreach, the Trust provides basic medical support and preventive health awareness for rural and underserved communities. Village medical programmes bring basic examinations, consultations and health awareness closer to people for whom travelling to a clinic is difficult. Emphasis is placed on prevention — hygiene, nutrition, maternal and child health, and timely referral to hospitals when specialised treatment is needed. Care is offered with dignity and without distinction, and special attention is given to elderly persons, expectant mothers and young children.

Child & Student Support

The Trust provides educational assistance and residential support for students through Adele Bhawan Hostel, where children from rural and economically disadvantaged families live and study in a supportive environment. Support is extended to children of different backgrounds without distinction. The hostel provides accommodation, meals, study hours and guidance, allowing students from distant villages to continue their schooling without the daily burden of travel. Care is taken to create a home-like atmosphere in which children are safe, cared for and encouraged in their studies.

Community & Rural Development

Community outreach and rural development activities include engagement with village communities, awareness programmes and agricultural activities. Cultivation and related work support food needs, practical learning and community participation. Sustainable agriculture on the Trust's land provides vegetables and grain for its institutions, demonstrates simple and environmentally sound farming practices, and offers local families an opportunity to learn and take part. Regular village visits, self-help group meetings and awareness sessions help communities identify their own needs and act together on them.
